World Cup Snooze, I mean News

The highly anticipated showdown between the French...

...and the Germans...

...has been put aside by the emergence of the upstart Italians into the picture.

Most non Europeans had eagerly awaited the fireworks of a France-Germany shootout (if Germany had won, would they have marched up the Champs Elysees? If France had won would they have changed the Rhine back to the Rhone?), but it is not to be.

Italy plays France for the Championship of the Soccer World. The game will end in yet another stultifying 0-0 nil-nyet-nada-nothing tie, with the victory decided by who makes the best cheese.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, while France pinkies up against Italy, the truly interesting struggle will take place at Plotzer Stadium in Stiletto City where the beloved Plotzers, clad all in white and wearing wings, will take the field against the hated Braindead Caribbeans, in the red uniforms with horns. Which game will Plotnik be watching? Ah ha, oho, ha, ha, yukk, that's a good one.

Don't count Italy out. I mean look how they handled Ethiopia (the second time that is). Gee do you think Little Ethiopia would be a good neighborhood to watch the game in? We could eat spaghetti and njeera. -- dan

Even I, who have been a bit obsessive about the soccer thing, will have no problem deciding what to watch on Sunday. Every time I chose a team to root for in the cup tournament, it almost immediately failed. I really cannot care less about who wins the thing now.

A four game series between the Dodgers and Giants can do that to a guy.

We have almost sold OUT of all books on soccer, interesting, no?
(well, sort of)
