Muir Woods
The Plotniks' Marin friends told Plottie not to attempt a trip to Muir Woods on a Sunday unless he and Duck wanted to wait in a line at the freeway offramp. So, they went Monday instead. Amazingly, there were still lines, but mainly to park -- the lot was full and the overflow lot was full and the turnouts along the road had rented red sports cars smack in the middle so only that one car could park there (ooooh, temptation...). The hike back to the trailhead was almost as long as the hike itself. But it was well worth the trouble.
On the Lost Trail, you have to hike up a lot of stairs...
...but of course it's nothing like the stairs in Peru.
All along the trails there are beautiful stands of coastal Redwood, the tallest trees in the world, though, if Plottie is to be perfectly honest, he thinks Giant Sequoias are still far more majestic. To test out the veracity of this statement, he crouched in the crotch of a particularly stately redwood, wearing his Spiritual Cap, which captures all chakras in the vicinity. The cap lit up. Bingo.
Once you've left the tourist boardwalk, you've got the place to yourself. The air smells sweet. It turns out that Trail Mix tastes better on a trail.
Plottie took the time to text his kids. He said something like "We're in Muir Woods enjoying the redwoods on a beautiful trail." P-Dunky texted back and said "No, you're not. You're sending a text message like a fifteen year old."
A few hours later they drove back to SP, stopped at Rosemunde on Haight Street for Andouille and Beer sausage sandwiches with dijon and grilled onions and then came home. Plotzers lost again, of course.

Love the way the light slants through the trees in that first shot. What a great day it looks.
Beautiful, we haven't been there in years because of tourists/traffic, but it is gorgeous.
Nice glowing hat. Was there a sale at Diablo Canyon?
