Organic? Well, Yeah, But...
Ah, the confidence of the organic movement! This fine looking box of loose leaf lettuce is placed outside the front door (and presumably near the kitchen) of a designery-looking house on Randall Street. The homeowners probably grow bumper crops of salad greens in this box using organic cottonseed meal and kelp harvested by hand from the Sea of Japan.
What they are not taking into consideration is Mischief.
As we who have enjoyed many long walks with boy dogs know quite well, all it takes is one dog to pee someplace and then every dog who comes down the pike for the next six months will pee there too.
What a salad this will be! Organic? Well, yeah, but...

Mischief adds to the unique flavor, everyone knows that.
First, anyone that puts their lettuce out front has to be aware of the risks, and I do think that Mischief counts as being organic in any case.
Second, I used to worry when the grandkids would pick things from the garden and start eating them without at least rinsing them. There are an amazing number of things not named Mischief that can fart, pee, and poop on a garden no matter where it is. But they are all reasonably organic, I guess, and who am I to stop the kids from eating fresh vegis.
But I'd definitely wash that lettuce before eating it.
