Erie Canal-2

Today, Plotnik has to finish a travel piece on the Erie Canal, more specifically on renting a houseboat in Buffalo and heading East along the Canal for three days and two nights, getting as far as the first town past Rochester, before turning around and coming back to Buffalo. It's the same trip Plotnik, Ducknik, The Great PunkyDunky and The Great BeezieWeezie took in 1997.

This is what the boat looked like. It went maybe 6 mph. The kids would dive off the back and go swimming in the clear water of the Canal. The cushions made into beds, so at night the Plotniks would dock along the bank, tie up the boat, walk into town, find a 24-hour Greek restaurant, bring food back to the boat and then sleep under the stars.

PD had just gotten back from India. He was still carrying boxes of donuts on his head.

Memorable countryside, memorable trip, wonderful part of the country few people ever see. Got a Mule and her name is Sal. Fifteen miles on the Erie Canal. Unbelievable Italian food in Buffalo.

...and here I thought we were so lucky to have just walked along the Erie Canal when we were in Rochester back in 1995. I so love this post and the photos and the donuts on his head.
