In the Vortex

Remember these two?

"We're in the vortex of waiting," says the text message from the Great PD and the Great 5.9+ Head. "Hours passing very slowly."

This is one more example illustrating how much easier it is to be the prospective grandparent than parent. Ducknik and Plotnik eat dinner, watch a little TV, go to bed early so they can be ready to fly out of the house, then they wake up in the morning, well, rested.

PD and 5.9+, meanwhile, don't sleep much. Everyone who has ever been through a pregnancy remembers the end game. Then comes the craziness of the baby's birth, and then the insanity of the infant's first few weeks, and then...amazingly enough, everybody forgets all that and can't wait to do it again.

This is what the baby's room used to look like, back in the day, when the only sounds you'd hear were police sirens, helicopters, fire engines, dogs barking and the crazy dude across the street playing 'The Best of War' at 6AM.

Now, the room has spanking fresh paint, a soft rug, a crib, a changing table, everything but...a baby. Any day now. Hang on, Sloopy.
