Cheese Steak for Everyone!

Baseball is agony and ecstacy. The first photo, courtesy the New York Times, captures the agony part. It almost makes you feel sorry for the New York Mets, the team that tried buying all the best players during the offseason and expected to be in the World Series, but instead suffered the coolest total collapse in modern baseball history. Gotta love it.

Here's the ecstacy, courtesy the Philadelphia Inquirer. The lowly Philadelphia Phillies won the pennant on the last day of the season, knocking out the Mets. Bartender, set 'em up! Cheese Steak for everyone!

Really, this is why we love baseball, isn't it? So unpredictable. I'll never forget that World Series many years ago when the Phillies played...
nothing but fun (and sorrow, of course, as you point out so well).

I happen to be the photographer who took both of those photos. Did you not see the copyright notice underneath them in tiny print? I'll be sending you my bill under separate cover.

This could be a good post-season (especially now with the Calamari Rockheads - I love that name - getting in).

The Phillies beat my Royals in the World Series many years ago, and I still can't let go. Go Rockheads!
