It's a Bit Early for a Shrine, Don't Ya Think?

This lovely shrine was sent to Plotnik yesterday by devoted Braindead fan Giant Gal Sal. The interesting thing about bobbleheads is that they can't seem to make any of them look the least bit like the person they are honoring. Plotnik thinks he sees Felipe Alou in the middle, with the mustache, and he guesses that's Barry on the left, due to the size, and the Latino catcher must be -- oh, it's Benito Santiago. Plotnik read it on his plaque. Is that J.T. Snow standing next to him?

Of course, the underlying story here is that no one builds a shrine until the season is almost lost -- it's a means of invoking supernatural powers to bring one's team back into contention. But Braindead Caribbean fans don't have a lot of patience. If you're on a ferry with any of them, expect to be fishing them out of the bay before the ship leaves Pier 39. This shrine was sent yesterday BEFORE the season started!

Plotnik still has his Pedro Guerrero action figure (seen here with Bleeding Gums Murphy's saxophone), and Fernando Valenzuela's too, and he hasn't thrown away Omar Bernal's old bottle of brandy, and the bat that he got in Cooperstown is still under his bed. So, Plotnik can construct his shrine on a moment's notice. Let's talk again in June.

Brother Two Names, 162-0 is unlikely. Didn't the Plotzers sweep the Braindeads last year the first three games? And look what happened.

But yes. We'll go.

It's not that we don't have a lot of patience - it's that we are realistic. We know how bad it is going to be. Just like we know we can beat the ferry by swimming.

Okay. Fine. I'll be more realistic. 161-1.

Where are the Cubbie greats? I don't see any red "C"s in that display!
