Providence Day One: Bright Red Tree

There is a bright red maple tree out in front of the Great BZWZ's house that you see from the window at the end of the hallway. Providence R.I. seems to be as beautiful as ever, though it's still early Monday morning and Plot, Duck and BZ only got here last night.



Yesterday was a perfect, warm and sunny Brooklyn day. In the morning, everyone sat around as the birthday girl opened the rest of her presents. Plot and Belly played around in her new sleeping bag.



PD and 5H stared at the directions before they put together Belly's new scooter, then went for a walk in Fort Greene Park, which was apparently a very scary place only ten years ago but now is filled with families and dogs and kids.




Plot and Duck ended up spending ten days in Brooklyn and had the usual great time. They got to take Belly to the Brooklyn Children's Museum, they saw FELA on Broadway, they saw one mugging, they had lunch with Dance-Nik after the Yankees Victory Parade, they went to their friends Linda and Ron's apartment for a Barcelona-style dinner, they saw the Old Masters room and the America Visited collections at the Met, they tossed a frisbie on a gorgeous Sunday in Fort Greene Park, they walked through Clinton Hill in a fish hat and Pharoah's mask on Halloween, they heard great gospel music during the NY Marathon, they ate NO pastrami, they didn't cook one meal, they laughed a lot with The Great PD and The Great 5H and fell in love with their new neighborhood, they walked Mischief and watched him briefly recapture his youth when baby squirrels presented themselves in front of his nose, they visited Belly's co-op day care center in Bed-Stuy and met lots of kids in fabulous Halloween costumes, then got to see several of them again at her birthday party, they watched no TV, they heard no newscasts, they got the NY Times every morning but barely glanced at it, they ate a most memorable dessert at Tanoreen and munched on terrific roast chicken from LUZ in the car on the drive up to P-Town.



This will be a day of doing laundry and reading emails and finishing old business before meeting BZ tonight for dinner. She's got classes all day and Plot and Duck will go to a lecture with her before dinner. Plot heard a family talking Portuguese last night. They must be in Providence.
