"Happy Columbus Day..."

...was what Plot settled on this morning, for his wife to say to him, rather than "Happy Early Birthday Present," when she presented him with a tiny and spanking new Panasonic Lumix digital camera for their upcoming trip. Everybody knows you can't officially accept a birthday present before your official birthday, for reasons that are obscure only to people who don't understand spitting over your shoulder when you spill the salt.

Plottie's old Olympus has a jammed shutter flap but still takes nice pictures, if anyone can use a new old camera for a Hardly Strictly Columbus Day present.

So now there's a manual to read, or would be if The Great Plotnik weren't interested only in pointing, shooting and downloading.

Plot's got Skype on the Eye Pud now. Just sayin.'

The new camera takes nice pictures, all right.

"Columbus Day" is so old hat, Plottie. We're calling it Exploration Day now (tinyurl.com/cd12dklj), which doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, but it does beat "Indigenous Peoples Day."

Either way, your early b'day gift looks like a winner!

I just got one of these Lumix as my new sacrificial trail running camera. So far I am pleased - hopefully you will be too.

I'm looking forward to stunning pictures from the upcoming trip. (BRING THE CABLE! It does not use a standard one.)
