The Great Plotnik

Thanks Mr. Apple and DANG Those Were Good Pancakes!

The Modern Diner in Pawtucket is not very modern and neither is the food. Here were a small fraction of the breakfast specials. (The place is only open for breakfast and an early lunch.)

People do love to eat breakfast around here, and judging by the size of the portions and the folks eating them we'd say this is a popular custom here in Providence.

Now here is an homage to the cell phone. Plotnik's friend Yossi has said he thinks the cell phone is the most important invention of the 20th Century. The night before last Plot had to agree.

The Great FiveHead, Great PunkyDunky and Great BellyBone, along with Plot, Duck, and JJ-aka-PP had gone to an enormous Italian dinner on Federal Hill.

It was getting late and it was time for the three Brooklyns to get in the car and drive the three hours home. The late hour departure was to assure less traffic than on the way up here on Saturday.

But the dinner party had one too many people to all fit in one car to go the restaurant, so PD drove his and BZWZ drove hers. Plot and Duck walked over to BZ's house to drive with her, and PD, 5H and BB drove to the dorm where JJ was staying, picked her up and everyone met up at the restaurant.

Except that meant the PD contingent had to lock the apartment where they were staying with Plot and Duck. That meant they had the house keys. That meant that half an hour after the long waves and kisses good-bye, Plotnik discovered that 5H had the only keys to the apartment and she was half an hour down the road to New York.

So Plot called 5H. 5H said OHMIGOD.

Then Plot, Duck and BZ got in BZ's car and started out west on I-95. PD, 5H and BB turned their car around and started back east on I-95.

How could they have accomplished this without cell phones? Every time PD got to a marked exit, he called BZ. Everytime BZ got to an exit she called PD. Soon we all had managed to get on opposite sides of the same exit, PD got off the highway and waited, and BZ turned around, drove back and found him parked on the shoulder waiting. Keys were exchanged and it only cost maybe an hour total of travel time total.

Amazing. We take our technology for granted and it has changed our lives around. Thank you Mr. Nokia, Mr. Samsung and Mr. Apple. Also, tough luck, Mr. Horseshoe Crab.

I think he's right about the cell phone. Husbando and I used to get lost in assorted meeting places ("you said in front of Macy's, not Nordstrom's")and now we use the cells.
