One More Piano Student Out of a Job
Damn, stop the presses! The Great PD reports this morning from his steaming desk in the Big Apple that there is a new I-Pad APP that transcribes and displays sheet music on the screen!
What does this mean? Plot isn't sure how well it will work, but he has spent many, many hours in dark night clubs and concert and studio rooms with a multi-paged lead sheet taped together in the corners and falling over the edges of a music stand unable to hold them all up. These charts became practically impossible to read.
And imagine that concert pianist with the piano student at his side turning his pages as the maestro plays?
That piano student is delivering pizza now. Imagine Sergei Rachmaninoftnik, modern master, sitting on his piano bench smoking a cigar as the music is not only displayed but (new app pending) played in its entirety by his I-Pad. Want to sound like Schubert? Press Apple Key and S. Want to sound like Beethoven? Press Apple Key and B.
Want to sound like both of them? Press Apple Key B-S.
But it isn't B.S., it's actually an improvement. A big one, we think.

Close to magic.
If my music were not memorized, (well ok, not mine..because I never got past "Alley Cat" and the love them to "Romeo and Juliet" but if someone were performing and neede to refer to their score, I can't imagine on something that might run out of battery juice, might not be visible in the glare of the stage light, etc. It is a cool app and certainly would have many uses, but for concert piano?
Nah.
sorry for the missing words/letters. There was a glitch while trying to post...
