Erin Has Her Plotnik Name: DC Niecie

The Great Plotniks hit the road again tomorrow, EARLY -- like, wake-up call at 3:45AM. This is to be out of the house by 4:15 to get to Oakland Airport Offsite Parking by 4:45 to be at the airport by 5:00 or so to catch a 6AM flight which is to arrive in Capital N (our Nation's capital) by 2:30PM, to catch the bus from Dulles to DC and arrive by 4, to drop off our suitcases and ukelele at Patsy's in the NW, in time to get to D.C. Niecie's house in the SE by 6 (yes, same D.C. Niecie who got married in Alabama two weeks ago but didn't have her Plotnik Name until this morning), to get to RFK Stadium by gametime to watch the Nats play the Marlins. Hah? Plotnik will report in depth on the hot dogs. Will the Nats have anything like a Cha Cha Bowl? (No comment here on the latest Orlando Cepeda news.)

Meanwhile, The Great PD sent photos of Griffith Park burning yesterday. That's the LA River in the foreground and the little ribbon of road is Riverside Drive. When the Plotniks lived in Stiletto City there were fires every summer in these hills and in the canyons, usually followed by mudslides. Griffith Park is Stiletto City's Golden Gate Park, or Central Park, and it hadn't burned in some years, but a homeless guy fell asleep while smoking and...bim.

Friends were evacuated from nearby homes and they almost had to remove all the animals from the zoo. But it's under control. Friends are back. PD, 5H, Baby I and Mummy P live close by, within the range of falling ash, but report everything is just about back to normal.

But it's only May. We may be in for a summer of Tough Love.

Tough love indeed - Florida is bracing for the first storm (which may help with their own wildfires).

I lived in the DC area for 4 years and very badly wanted them to get a baseball team. And now they have a very bad baseball team, but I am deeply envious that you get to see a game there.

I am very deeply unenvious of you getting up at 3 to do that though...

It was a little strange sitting at work watching the hill burn...even stranger to see how close the flames came to the observatory.

Have a fun trip and I'll see you in 8 weeks!!!

I once heard there were numerous flashers that would congregate to practice their trade in Griffith Park - could this be a weenie roast, LA style?
