Baby I Had a Beautiful Afternoon

No, Notthat, the Plotniks got little chance to spoil Baby I yesterday, because spoiling isn't easy anymore. The problem with kids these days is that they're far too well behaved. Plotnik hadn't seen as many children together in one spot for years, so he waited for the inevitable meltdown -- nope, never happened. Nobody fussed, nobody cried, nobody did much except look really, really cute. Baby Isabella blew out her one candle (with help)...



...and was even caught on camera kissing some little upstart named Klaus. (See Wednesday, Nov. 7) Klaus! Can you imagine? Did she clear it with her grandparents first? Did Plotnik even get to ask Klaus about his intentions? No, senor.

All these men and women who Plot and Duck knew when they were little boys and girls and now they're showing up at birthday parties with their own little boys and girls. Jeez. Judson was the lead singer in Dan's high school band. Now Judson has Caitlin. Barry lived around the corner. Now Barry has Skyler and Jaydon. There were two beauties named Hana, like on Maui, and one named Hannah, like Montana. These kids are the best of what we've got, too -- fabulous parents, everyone who is a little bit of this and a little bit of that. If I wanted beautiful babies for tv commercials I'd have put up a kiosk at Baby I's First Birthday Party and signed 'em all up.

Life is good. Last night Plot and Duck sat with Mummy Plotnik on her sofa and listened to her tell stories, filling in lots of questions -- like what did Stiletto City look like when Mummy P first saw it in 1943 after arriving from Chicago? (Beautiful, warm, and white carpets! You couldn't have white carpets in Chicago with everyone heating their houses with coal.)

Hungry. Need coffee. Need Cafe Tropical. Won't get it today, but tomorrow yes.
