Leaving for Work

The Great FiveHead and The Great PunkyDunky "went to work" this morning, the euphemism of euphemisms, but as long as Isabella thinks that's where they've gone for a couple days, wearing t-shirts and funky hats, that's OK by the Plotniks. "Work" is actually a beach in Puerto Rico where the parents will do r&r for a few days while Papa and Bobo hang out with Isabella.

Belly is already used to Mama going to work for a week or more at a time, when 5H is on set in Stiletto City, so Belly seems comfortable with the concept of both parents going to work, rather than on vacation, which would bring up the obvious "Why didn't I get to go too?"

It was pretty easy this morning -- she called for "mama" a couple times but was easily diverted by a few stories and silly faces. Plotnik slipped up during breakfast and called The Great Ducknik by the name he often calls her back at World Headquarters, which is "Duckie Daddles." So Belly now calls her "Bobo Ducky Daddles"and it cracks them both up every time.

This amazing child could narrate a Dostoevsky novel (as long as the listeners were other two year olds). She is astoundingly verbal -- and repeats everything she hears. Plot is sure she will have a natural musical ear that will be easily cultivated and he hopes he gets to do part of the cultivating.

Plot likes Brooklyn. It is so much homier than Manhattan. This morning he and Duck dropped Belly off at her Day Care for a few hours then walked down Union Street looking for a plastic coffee filter funnel. They found it at a wonderful coffee-chocolate-placemats shop, an old place that is struggling to stay alive in an atmosphere of businesses closing down all around them. Tonight they promised Belly pizza when they pick her up from Day Care. Tomorrow and Sunday will be more hectic but should be a ton of fun too, if it only stops raining.

You two are brave watching that ball of energy while the mom and dad go play. But that also makes you great grandparents. Bobo Duckie Daddles indeed!
